These are probably photos from a student solo cross-country.

In this picture, I'm looking way too low on the approach.  I wonder what the circumstances were.  Maybe I was just unnerved at a controlled airport and descended too early.  My strategy now is to always be sure I can glide in if I need to.

Flying kind of reminds me of those seat belt commercials from years ago:  most accidents happen within 25 miles of home.  That statement is true simply because most people do most of their driving within 25 miles of home.  I suspect statistically that many engine failures occur at low altitude, simply because airplanes spend a lot of time at low altitude.  I would argue that it pays to be careful how you fly the pattern and how you make landing approaches.  Real careful.
